NHS Services towards Promoting Recovery!
At JPF First Aid, we always highlight the importance of knowing the different NHS routes available during our courses. It’s all about supporting individuals and our NHS staff as part of first aid’s core aims.
There are a number of different options that we could look at utilising when we may become unwell or injured. We don’t always have to visit A&E. When thinking about our aims of first aid and promoting recovery, please see below other services that’s available to us:
- GP
- Walk-in Centres
- Pharmacists
- Minor Injuries Units
- Calling 111 – Non-medical emergency number where we can gain advice and support
- Urgent Treatment Centres (in hospitals)
- Accident and Emergency (A&E)
Did You Know? Minor Injuries Units Are Here to Help!
This time of year, A&E departments are extremely busy, but did you know there’s an alternative? Minor Injuries Units (MIUs) are a fantastic resource that can provide care for non-life-threatening issues, helping to ease the pressure on our NHS while ensuring you still get the support you need.
So, how can a Minor Injuries Unit help you? They can look to treat:

When the Situation is an Emergency – Life-Threatening:
In these circumstances, we would then need to call either 999 or 112. You may wonder what 112 is and not heard of this being a number we can use.
112 is the EU wide emergency telephone number, which can also be used in the UK as an additional number to 999.
Please always consider – is your situation an emergency, prior to calling our emergency services.
